My First Blog Post

Focus hard on navigating the troubled seas of now. Don’t worry-wart the past. Don’t worry-wart the future.

Hello World

I have chosen to write a blog rather than write a personal journal. I don’t know if this was a wise choice or not. I know this will seem peculiar, but (to me) writing a blog feels a lot like pondering a sky dive. I know that’s ridiculous. However, the anxiety and the reluctance strike me as being somehow similar. But I’m hopeful. Listen, I’m old. Forty years ago, the lemonade tasted better, my gears didn’t grind as much, and the world looked so much less disheartening than it does now.

As we age, most of us feel increasingly besieged by our own mortality. I am 71 (as of 2019). My health has been better. Being on a short fuse, I can’t (won’t) say that “the thrill is gone” yet… but the twilight does indeed beckon ominously. Posterity-wise, creating a blog is something that at least shows that I was here. Right?

As you get older, you finally kind of get things sorted out. However, much to your chagrin, you find out that you’ve gotten too old to fully enjoy the fruits of that knowledge. I’ve lived all these years and made all the mistakes and errors that we all tend to make, growing up. Usually, as we mature in a profession, raise a family, sorrow as so many of those around us disappear, and then hesitantly venture out into our own twilight years… we sort of figure things out – at least more so than we had earlier.

One blinks, turns around like Dave in 2001 Space Odyssey, and wonders what in blue blazes is going on. But hopefully, one understands things a little better than in the past. However, it’s sorta’ late to try and make optimal use of it all. One has gotten too old. If one had only acquired the wisdom that time brings, and been able to apply that to our minds as a younger person, things would have turned out so much differently, don’t you think?

We are not passing our wisdom on to the kids, as we should be doing. What we have learned in the school of hard knocks, we should at least be trying to pass on. Why does every generation have to learn things all over again? You might point out: “Well, it’s just the nature of youth to not listen. It’s in their nature to rebel against all authority.” And as absolutely true as that is, there’s still a great deal of fertile ground that could be seeded if we would just establish an emphasis.

But we don’t. Humanity-wise, each successive generation is worse off than the previous generation (and I’m not talking about material comforts or technology here). The human take on this is: each generation is not nicer; they’re not kinder. Humanity seems to less and less respect the lives and well-being of their fellow man as time marches on.

All lamenting aside, I should express my primary reason for being right now. I am a born-again Christian (non-denominational). God has been so good and so merciful to me over the years, I can’t express. The Living Christ is VERY REAL! I have met him “up close and personal.” I am forgiven and He is alive in me forevermore.

It is my intent to share some of my personal thoughts and perspectives. I hope to bless and encourage my brothers and sisters in the Lord. I also want to leave a small legacy of thought and blogging smorgasbord for my grandchildren (and potentially progeny) to read.

Additionally, I hope to offer other content that might be of interest. Specifically, I plan on sharing information about some of the naturopathic health solutions out there. As well, I am interested in astronomy, physics, space exploration and science, in general.

As many of you are, I am very saddened and touched by the continuing extinction of so many species. I also feel threatened and harmed by the continuing deadly pollution and deforestation of the planet that is taking place. There are many other subjects that interest me too; I just can’t bring them all to mind right now.

Finally, on this blog: I also plan on celebrating some of the good old rock n’ roll tunes of yore (mostly 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s). Hope some of you can enjoy the golden age of rock n’ roll along with me. I love music.

Bottom line: as well as creating a small legacy of thought, I very much desire to bless and (if I can) entertain some of you. We are all in this crazy thing together, aren’t we? As do most of you, I want the best for all of us.

Kind Regards and May God Bless,

John
