American Girl – Tom Petty

Tagged in YouTube as Tom Petty’s last song (??) => See the below YouTube link.

We dearly miss you, Tom Petty.

Where did all the old ones go anyway? Death gets increasingly harder to deal with the older you get. All the people you knew up close or were acquainted with from a distance increasingly disappear off the radar screen. It really starts to get lonesome.

It didn’t bother me as much when I was younger. But now, I look around and there are so few left: the near, the dear, the distant. It’s just hard: the sadness, the ennui, the pretty much complete wipeout of your accustomed relationships and culture. Some (I hope most) of the old ones I will see again in heaven. But others??? I hate to think.

We miss you Tom Petty. A lot of us miss you a lot.

An Anthropological Dilemma

Cartoon: Pinterest

A part of my walk with God has suffered from anthropological perceptions and pre-dispositions. Hold on => I can feel the eyeballs rolling already. What in blue blazes do I mean by that wacky, overblown statement? Let me see if I can communicate what I feel. I may or may not be able to explicate this in lucid fashion. But let me try anyway.

I fully understand that as we grow in faith and grace we are challenged. Our earthly walk is a trial by fire. The trial of our faith is more precious than gold. A life of Faith is not always an easy proposition. But Jesus told us: “my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” The battle has already been won. All we have to do is walk in the victory that has already been purchased for us. Okay. I get that.

But candidly sharing… and it’s probably just my own degenerate mindset… but I have often worried about God. Albeit more-so in the past than now, I have truly worried about Him. I worry that => HE JUST HAS TO BE TOO BUSY! He is wearing his butt out, you know what I’m saying?

With the google-quadrillion plus variables God is always having to juggle, it’s no blooming wonder that He doesn’t always have time for me. Right? 🥴 He’s not close by because He’s attending to the infinity-plus details of the universe elsewhere. Correct? Wrong, Keem-O-Sawbee! This is an anthropological mis-apprehension – a total anthropological mis-perception.

We handicap ourselves trying to understand and feel God in an anthropological sense. That’s my primary point. God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. He’s all knowledgeable. He’s all powerful. He’s always there => EVERYWHERE! He’s with us ALWAYS… inside, out, and all around.

God is not too busy. Remember: “It is finished.” God foresaw it all even before he began the cosmos. Outside of the space-time continuum it’s already happened in the mind of God. God is not in the process of worry-warting’ everything to death (like man tends to do). It’s already in the bag. We don’t need to sweat it.

So… I sometimes have to reprove dumb butt here (moi) a little bit: don’t try to embrace God anthropologically. I remind myself that the Holy Spirit is always with me. He lives inside of me. He is always there. I need not worry about God’s capacity to get things done. He’s not tired. And nothing… ABSOLUTELY NOTHING can ever separate me from the love of God. Amen and amen…

Coffee Fiends Unite! Coffee Helps Limit DNA Damage!

Where’s my creamer, momma’?
Ah-hh-hhh… das’ better, momma’!

Excerpted from a Life Extension article (below link):

A recent study discovered that coffee protects our DNA, the thin stretches of genetic material packed into virtually every cell in the body.

This new study adds to growing evidence recommending consumption of 2-4 cups of coffee daily helps protect against a host of age-related disorders.

😃😃😃😃😃

“DNA damage contributes to accelerated aging.

In the trial, published in late 2018, coffee reduced DNA damage by a significant 23%.

There are many causes of damage to DNA, from normal metabolic processes to external factors like exposure to UV light or radiation.

As we age, the damage accumulates, leading to further, more rapid aging of organs and tissues.

Common disorders with links to DNA damage include cardiovascular, diabetes, inflammatory bowel, autoimmune, and cancer (problems).”

Retail Has Become A Very Tough Market

Transformco, the parent company of Sears and Kmart is laying off hundreds at its Illinois headquarters.

Excerpt:

CHICAGO — The parent company of Sears and Kmart has laid off more employees at its Hoffman Estates, Ill., headquarters, a week after announcing plans to close about a third of the retailer’s remaining stores.

The layoffs, which reportedly affected hundreds of employees, first were reported by Business Insider. The latest job cuts come just two months after a round of layoffs affecting about 250 workers.

This economy continues to deteriorate. You can call it a recession if you want too, but many of us perceive the state of affairs as being much worse than that. We appear to be perched on the precipice of gargantuan economic calamity. I hope not but… it isn’t looking so good from where I sit.

Re. Sears and Kmart: The big boys like Amazon and Walmart are driving retail companies out of business. HOW these two Goliaths are able to dominate the market place would appear to be: price and convenience. These days and times, it seemingly requires a huge organization/enterprise in order to be able to compete.

I don’t know about you but I dread the potential day when there is only going to be only one retail outlet, one bank, one grocery store, one movie company, one newspaper, one automobile, one government, ad nauseam. The escalating concentration of power just never seems to abate. Groupthink and “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” abound. It’s scary.

The concentration of power puts you in mind of the old GUM stores. There was basically just one retail store in the old Soviet Union => the GUM stores. A completely managed and fatally-flawed enterprise: shortages, bad prices, long lines, etc. Competition may have its tradeoffs, but when monopoly forces are allowed to increasingly dominate… well, we got big trouble brewing, folks.

JCT Blogging Fundamentals

Photo: https://www.pexels.com

Granted, the below are just my own personal, misappropriated judgements. However, the opportunity of trying to assist a few bloggers out there in the blogosphere is greatly appreciated (note: I couldn’t wait to use the word, blogosphere. The word rolls so nicely off the tongue, doesn’t it? 🤪 ).

Being new to this Never Never Land of blogging (note: I’ve never been on Facebook either), I have come to a few realizations about blogging:

First off => Post pacing. Good blogging seems to be greatly about rhythm. It’s all about the gait – the pace. Manage the rate of posting. Do not under-post (people may lose attention). Do not over-post (people may get worn out and desert you). Get a good rhythm going and except for needed occasional variety (don’t get too monotone), maintain a fairly consistent rate of posting.

Talking about blogs other than commercial ones, blogs are rather slowly assimilated. “Followers” using Reader in WordPress do not need to be deluged with your postings. Maybe your mind works close to the speed of light (and though I probably blog too often, my mind certainly doesn’t move at the speed of light 🥴)… one needs to realize that reading and digesting multiple blogs (as most of us try to do), can sometimes be a tiring and tedious process. Reading takes some time. Be sensitive as to potentially wearing people out.

Truly good blog postings take a little concentrated attention to digest and appreciate. People tend to be 60 seconds here, 60 seconds there. We all have family, lives, and passions that have to be attended too. Most of us, we’re very busy out here in blogland’. Keep it concise. Blogging is sometimes a Blues Brothers mission; but even then, you have to grasp the rate of assimilation and the amount of time available to readership.

Which logically leads me to a second related point: Post length: You just have to force yourself to limit the length of your postings. Probably, the number one reason that posts are abandoned so frequently is that the posts are just too dad-blamed long (guilty as charged on that front 🤭). Force yourself to be efficient with your words (uh-oh 😦). Time is precious. There are enough substantive issues to be grasped without being worn down by trivial and inefficient pursuits (another uh-oh 🤭). If you have something to say: say it quickly. Don’t be long and rambling (unfortunately like this post is becoming… 😬 => oh me!).

Post grammar: Another reason many posts are abandoned prematurely is because of bad grammar. I’d probably be one of the last people in the world to stringently limit you to the King’s English (I mainly speak Texan myself). I can easily tolerate idiomatic things like sentence fragments and dialectical and regional style. I can overlook verb tense problems, dropped prepositions, unwieldy sentences, danglers, and so forth and so on. However, when a post just becomes so grammatically replete with bad spacing, stupid typos, and egregiously-incorrect grammar, I’ve been known to quickly drop that post off by the side of the road. So be forewarned.

Blogging speaks to an amazingly-literate audience out here. You don’t often find the level of literacy and intelligence that accompanies blogging. If you recognize grammatically-weak tendencies in your postings, do your best to remedy grammar-related problems before belaboring your audience. I suggest using WordPress’ draft mode to work on your posts until they are truly up to snuff. It’s good to sit on those ideas for awhile anyway. Let them germinate. I’ve found that posts tend to get better => the riper they become. Learn how to be your own editor (a must). As I’m sure you well understand => good editing is absolutely essential.

Be a blessing: whatever you post, have a reason. Make sure you’re being a blessing in some regard. You want to entertain, comfort, edify, or otherwise assist the reader in some fashion. Try to be sensitive to being a blessing. Each post needs a raison d’être. Have a people reason to post. We’re carving out community here. Be helpful. Be respectful. Be real.

Finally… Thank people for their efforts when they have blessed you. Frequently use the comment function within WordPress. Use a consistent standard in your blog comments. Your comments should have as much integrity as your posts. And as I said above (allow me to emphasize) => we are establishing community here in the blogosphere. Share yourself to whatever degree you‘re comfortable with. But people need to be able to empathize with you. Good blogging is socializing. WordPress is a (multi-faceted) community wherein people are relating to each other in an often, genuinely-personal fashion (which is cool). You don’t have to go overboard with it. Blogging isn’t Twitter or Facebook. Try not to be guilty of being overly schmaltzy => Leave that part of the job to me 😝.

Blogging has been a great experience so far. Thank you, WordPress, for such a powerful and amazing tool. I’m very appreciative of what your good offices afford.

I do apologize for the overly-long post.

Peace out and God Bless, JCT.

Golden Slumbers – The Beatles

I’ve meandered around all over the place with rock n’ roll. However, not to be horribly remiss, I gotta’ post a Beatles song from one of my all-time favorite record albums (most probably my very favorite record album): Abbey Road.

I can’t add anything to what has already been said about The Beatles. They were simply MORE THAN foundational. They broke the mold. They established a new paradigm. It makes a person want to cry listening to Abbey Road.

Two New Antibiotic-Resistant Microbes Discovered

(Image: © Shutterstock)

Excerpts:

“A previous report, published in 2013, estimated that at least 2 million people in the U.S. get an antibiotic-resistant infection each year and that at least 23,000 people die from these infections. For the new report, CDC officials recrunched these numbers.

They found that closer to 2.6 million drug-resistant infections likely occurred at the time of the last report, resulting in nearly 44,000 deaths — nearly double the previous estimate.

The U.S. faces two new urgent threats to public health: a couple of drug-resistant germs called Candida auris and Acinetobacter, health officials announced today.

…someone in the U.S. catches a drug-resistant infection every 11 seconds, and someone dies as a result of these infections about every 15 minutes, according to a CDC statement.

Further information in addition to the above excerpts is provided in the link below. There is a good video (less than 3 minutes) included within the link about how antibiotics work and why people shouldn’t be taking them willy-nilly.

I believe antibiotics are one of the better discoveries of modern medicine. However, antibiotics also apparently kill good bacteria (a usual pharmaceutical trade-off). In reference thereto… I don’t believe oregano or zinc/echinacea compounds do harm to benevolent bacteria => both being recognized naturopathic remedies.

Albeit limited in strength (but not usefulness), zinc/echinacea, when used at the initial onset of bugs and flus will literally nip those things in the bud. I haven’t been flu sick in years because I immediately start ingesting zinc/echinacea at the first sign of scratchiness in my throat.

The developing sore throat bacteria can not then multiply in my throat. This stops the bacteria from spreading to the rest of my body. Zinc/echinacea is one of the three or four foundational naturopathic things I do for my body. Another essential naturopathic thing I do was covered in another previous post => You Gotta’ Get Alkaline.

Jack, my cat, seemed to listen and enjoy this song… that is until I started lightly tapping on him to the beat. Then he leaned back, warned me with a gentle bite, and ran off to less annoying environs. But really, he did like the song… at first, that is. He turned his head in the direction of the little blue tooth speaker and did seem quasi-interested. Like most cats though, he mostly ignores music – especially rock n’ roll. He’s my 16 year old buddy though. I love Mr. Jack.

Young People: Develop A Trade

You need to start developing a marketable trade-type skill at an early age, young people. I don’t care if you‘re dreaming of becoming an actor, an artist, a writer, a historian, an explorer, a nuclear physicist, an astronomer, an astronaut, whatever the heck it is you want to become => it doesn’t matter. You still need to be able to fall back upon a learned trade should(when) it might become necessary.

Life is going to throw most of us a few curves along the way. As you slowly evolve and migrate toward the profession/avocation of your choice (hopefully so anyway), things may possibly get a bit economically tough. The monthly budget may not always be there as hoped. That’s when you need a skill set to fall back upon => to be able to cover those unexpected periods of economic duress that may come calling. Because trust me: the great majority of us will experience economic dislocation at some point in our lives. Just the way it is.

It’s best to be prepared for contingencies. I never developed a trade skill in my own life. And I suffered because of it. My little family suffered because of it. I was an electrical engineer earlier in life. I was decent enough at it. But after a number of years (10+) that profession bit the dust as woefully as an Indy car stretching for the finish line but running out of gas. I SO WISHED back then that I’d had a good trade to fall back upon. But I did not. And as I said, myself and the family suffered because of that.

You may be thinking ‘electrical engineer’? Why didn’t you fall back on being an electrician or something? First off, being an electrician is a completely different skill set as compared to being an electrical engineer.

As an electrical engineer, yeah: you work with a soldering iron, prototypes, circuit boards, drafting, manufacturing considerations and so forth and so on. But you don’t necessarily develop a good skill set working with your hands per se. Math and science, physics, electronic knowledge, related technological advancements, different more mental-oriented thought processes are required.

But an electrician? Power considerations, circuit breakers, wiring, the physical hardware, how-to-fix (install) electrical in the home (according to code)… I still don’t have much of a clue. Although it should be fairly easy for me to pick it up, I never studied or learned that trade. And firms that hire electricians don’t want engineers unless they have some direct work experience. They want people who actually have hands-on experience. I didn’t have any.

Point being, you kids out there, even when you seek a professional-type situation… you need to have a backup plan – just in case. Find something that is (hopefully) marketable. Develop any number of good skills: carpentry, construction, automobile repair, electrician work, welding, cooking… I don’t know. I wouldn’t be able to list everything that might be marketably viable. But you get the idea.

I believe the public school system continues to do a grave mis-service to the youngsters. Kids (starting early on) should be channeled into a trade of their own choosing => every kid, male and female. Currently most public schools will offer some trade training but it’s usually a little late in the game and it’s primarily presented as a backup offering to those not opting for college – and offered somewhat apologetically. It ought to be more pervasive and made more respectable as is currently being presented. A trade skill provides essential flexibility and useful employment capability directly out of high school.

I don’t care if a kid wants a trade or not. He gets the training anyway. It should be a necessary component of growing up. It should be required training every year for every student => grades 712. With six years of training a kid will at least possess one valuable skill set upon graduating high school. That just can’t be a bad thing – actually learning something of immediate use and value.

Thunder On The Mountain Heavy As Can Be -Bob Dylan

www.pandora.com/artist/bob-dylan/modern-times/thunder-on-the-mountain/TRnP3c3dcXPqg7k

Okay, so maybe Bob Dylan doesn’t have the greatest voice in the world. However, he MORE than makes up for it with the other components of his music. Personally, I’ve come to love and appreciate Bob’s quirky, stylized lyrical jousting.

“Thunder On The Mountain” is probably my favorite Bob Dylan song. Lest you ever thought Bob Dylan couldn’t ROCK, you better first listen to this “Thunder On The Mountain” song (above link). In that regard you also need to listen to Bob’s vocals in the earlier “She’s My Baby” post:

God Delights In Us – Rabbi Schneider

When we stumble we are not going to fall headlong. He holds our hand.

Psalms 37:24 – Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

There is no other assurance in life other than the Lord. He who looks to the Lord will not be ashamed.

Psalms 37: 4,5 – Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Check out Rabbi (born-again) Schneider’s teaching below (elaborating on Psalms 37). It’s a brief listen (barely over two minutes). Of a certainty, you’ll be blessed…

The Oceans Are DYING

87% of the world’s oceans are dying. Only 13% of the world’s oceans have intact marine ecosystems, while the rest have been plundered and degraded.

Climate change is adversely affecting the oceans. As the ocean becomes more acidic (human-caused excess CO2), many species will not be able to survive.

Also => “The global fishing industry is overexploiting fish populations, and killing various species unintended for capture such as dolphins, sharks, and whales.”

Industrial pollution from farms, factories, and boats fills marine environments with harmful chemicals, while plastic pollution is turning large sections of ocean into hazardous obstacle courses…”

In addition to bulk plastic pollution, there is a less-discussed issue concerning microscopic, particulate matter. Microscopic plastic is getting into the fish, further compromising sea-life’s ability to survive. And importantly, as the plastic contamination continues, the fish that man eats are becoming increasingly toxic {JCT earnestly suggests that you research corollary “PM2.5” on the net}.

Beyond just valuing nature for nature’s sake, having these large intact seascapes that function in a way that they always have done is really important for the Earth,” Jones told the Guardian. They maintain the ecological processes that are how the climate and Earth system function – [without them] you can start seeing big knock-on effects with drastic and unforeseen consequences.”

The whales strongly depend upon krill to survive. In increasing-areas of the ocean, the krill are dying. Blue fin tuna are soon expected to become extinct. etc. etc. Our planet’s oceans are becoming a SUPREME NIGHTMARE! The oceans are changing from being *the deep blue sea” to *the deep toxic sea*.” This is just so horribly and tragically abhorrent, it makes one want to cry 😢.

It’s simple: the sea dies => man dies.

The Mind Is A Battleground

Anxiety and worry altogether-too-easily creep into our lives. Believers understand that we have an enemy who is intent upon dragging us down. Satan and his dark forces will always try to mentally assail and torment us. The dark side wants to inject worry, doubt, and fear into our lives. If he and his minions can even slightly load us down, they’re somewhat content (at least as content as God haters could ever be).

Always remember: the mind is NOT an intrinsic bastion of retreat and privacy. The mind is, spiritually speaking, largely a battleground. There are a lot of entities swirling around at our conscious periphery injecting things into the ether. We’re not essentially alone in there.

Your heart drives your mind and your mind will drive your actions. There are dark forces from nether perimeters continually trying to do damage inside our heads. It is a war in there sometimes. Too often I find myself wondering: is that my thought (and/or temptation) or is that from the enemy?

I guess it doesn’t really matter. Whatever the source, we are instructed to mortify and resist temptation and fear. The mind is probably our primary battleground. Fight the battle early on so that you don’t have to fight a larger flesh-endowed manifestation later on down the road. ***Best to rebuke those nasties promptly and then “forget about it.” The swifter you can quell bad thoughts, the EASIER it is to permanently crush them.***

Don’t allow the devil’s TRICKS to engage and entertain you. He’s a thief, a liar, and a murderer. We understand that at the outset. The Word says so. THE DEVIL’S JIG IS UP!! And he most definitely doesn’t like that fact!! He’s not going to be able to hide in the weeds anymore and he knows it. Believers know the truth and we have the power to resist. WE HAVE SUPREME VICTORY IN JESUS CHRIST! As you well know ==>> nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God.

It’s going to be okay, brothers and sisters. In the end everything’s going to work out just fine. Just fine. Battle on, dear brethren. Battle on…

***

James 4:7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

***

=> Two simple steps:

1) Submit yourselves to God.

2) Resist the devil.

Living Thing

I realize that I have posted this tune just recently; but I just gotta’ post it again (sorry). If you are reading this, you have to watch/listen to this YouTube video (sorry: blog visiting requirement 😎). Such incredibly gifted and fantastic artists => Rosie Langley and ELO.

This song incorporates the orchestral element of a violin – to great effect! ELO is not the first to incorporate more orchestral-type elements, of course, but such a prominent violin in a rock n’ roll song is pretty rare.

Orchestral accompaniment to rock n’ roll firstly brings to my mind Roy Orbison, The Moody Blues, and also the Beatles (in addition to others). It’s a lovely, lovely marriage.

The really early days of rock n’ roll witnessed prodigious use of the saxophone (1950’s) => a major Big Band, jazz component. I don’t know about you, but a really rockin’ sax brightens up my day every time.

Yamaha Alto Saxophone

Talking about Big Band, you have to hand it to those guys. You may not enjoy Big Band music, but you have to admit: those people were truly master musicians. They were EXPERT with their instruments. Only the more accomplished among them were able to rise among the ranks. Just fantastic musicianship.

Anyway… please watch this YouTube video. Myself, I so enjoyed it.

Love the Electric Light Orchestra! (David Letterman and I both (I suspect)).
